Inspired by their students’ sporting achievements, three PE teachers at Oldbury Wells, are taking part in a team triathlon this May to raise funds for local charity, Hope House.
The event, which will take place in Nantwich, Cheshire, will consist of a 500m swim, followed by a 21k cycle and a 5k run. The team of PE teachers, Mr Cowburn, Miss Joiner and Mr Farish, have each chosen a discipline that works to their personal strengths. The swim will be completed by Mr Cowburn who has a background as a competitive swimmer, the cycling by Miss Joiner, a fitness fanatic who will take on any sporting challenge and the run by Mr Farish, leading the way in the school’s 1500m athletics. The team have been training hard for the last two months and are confident they will complete the distance in a competitive time.
The charity Hope House, was chosen as all three teachers are keen to support a local charity. Hope House is based in Oswestry and provides care and support to children and young people with life-limiting conditions. They offer palliative care within their hospices and in the home and provide valuable support such as counselling, advocacy, spiritual, physical and psychological care by a team of dedicated doctors, nurses and other professionals 14 hours a day, all year round.
Miss Joiner said, “We’re honoured to be representing such an important local charity, trying to make our small contribution to aid the fantastic support that they give to local families. We also look forward to showing the students that Sir and Miss aren’t quite over the hill...yet!”
We wish our PE teachers the best of luck!
