Introduction

Twitter is a platform allowing users to write and create short posts (Tweets) which are shared with their followers, or if a user has a public account, shared amongst anyone using hashtags. On Twitter, a user may follow friends and family, celebrities, politicians, brands, and news channels. Users can view content from others, including opinion pieces, updates from others, photos, videos, and gifs. 

Features and Terminology

  • Tweet - a user may 'tweet' content, which essentially means writing or uploading a post. 
  • Re-Tweet -  if a user shares someone else's post, they 'retweet' it, and it will appear on their own profile
  • Direct Message - A user may send or receive direct messages on Twitter, these can are privately viewed.
  • Tag - A user may tag or be tagged in someone else's Tweet - this nay be a public way of sending a message, and the post will appear in the users profile.
